Our Tree in Autumn Roll your mouse over the image to see our class around the tree. Our tree is a Silver Queen Maple tree. It is very tall. The leaves are turning colors; red, yellow, orange. Some are still green and some are brown. There are knots in the bark and it is very branchy. The bark is very bumpy and has lots of texture. It is in the middle of the garden in a clearing outside of our classroom. There are birds, butterflies and bees in our tree, and it shades our room in the afternoon. |

Our Tree in Winter
Winter Tree News from Mrs. Johnson's Class Winter here is very different than normal. We have had a very mild winter, with many warm days and cool nights. Usually, we have snow, ice, wind and rain. It was been so warm that our tree thinks it is Spring and time to bloom! Right now it has tiny buds just about ready to burst open. We wonder what will happen when a cold wind blows and frosty snow comes? We will have to watch and see! Our photos show us with our bare tree, then with each of us posing like our tree, with branches reaching up to the winter sun. There are also a close up view of the buds, and one looking up through the branches, like in the Fall. Our art project is a "Tree Stick" painting. We painted with the tree branches that were trimmed by our grounds-keepers. Aren't they interesting? Mrs. Johnson's 2nd grade class |

Comments from our class on our spring tree Our Silver Queen Maple is living up to its name and growing quite regally, with new branches reaching very far up into the sky. The buds are now bursting open and have yellow and white blooms. This is attracting a few bugs, like ladybugs and ants. There have continued to be house finches and robins in the tree from time to time. The bark is still very gray and more cracked than before. We are wondering when the leaves will return...maybe after it warms up more.We also want it to warm up soon so that we can sit out in the little courtyard and read under its shade. |
