During the week, we charted the temperature, sunrise/sunset times for each day. The temperature was taken at noon each day. We noticed some patterns in the sunrise/sunset times. The days are getting shorter by over 2 1/2 minutes every day.

Our Tree in Autumn

Here we are in front of our fall tree.

We have many trees on our school grounds. Some of us looked at the trees as we had recess on the playground. We chose this tree because it is near our classroom, we see it every day as we get on and off the bus, and it is a colorful tree.

As you can see the leaves are changing and some leaves have fallen to the ground. The leaves are a bright red; some have yellow and green on them. We collected the leaves and did a leaf rubbing. We also pressed some of the leaves. The trunk of the tree is grayish and straight.  We will do a bark rubbing as well.

We researched our tree. We all know it was a maple, but we weren’t sure what kind. As we researched, we found there are many different kinds, but it appears to be a silver maple.

Winter Tree

Winter is definitely here; however, we can see some buds beginning to form on the branches of our tree. (below) We sketched out tree as you can see from our drawings. The branches reach up for the sky. We also did a bark rubbing on our tree trunk. The trunk of the tree is pretty smooth. There are a few scars on the trunk. We can’t wait to see the leaves start to come. Some of us check the tree as we get on the bus each day.
