Our Tree in Fall

Mrs. Accurso's Class: Fall Tree
After taking a walking tour of the grounds we decided on this maple tree. It stands behind the school over looking the new track. Long ago our school was a high school when this tree was just a seedling. Now it is one of the biggest trees out there. It’s trunk has split many times which makes it look as though it is many smaller trees close together but it is really one large tree. In the warmer months this tree provides shade for the upper classes that come outside to do their work. It has many long branches that show off the beautiful colors of autumn. As soon as we saw it we knew that this would be “our tree”.

Our Tree in Winter

Winter Tree: Mrs. Accurso's Class

Well we finally had some snow! Our tree looks like this winter has been hard on it. Although it hasn’t been a very cold winter we did have some very windy days. The wind has caused several branches to break off. They are scattered around the base of the tree. There are some bigger branches that had snapped and were hanging down ready to fall to the ground any minute. The tree is bare and lonesome; it looks like it can’t wait for spring to come and for the birds and squirrels to return.

Our Tree in Spring

Mrs. Accurso's Class: Spring tree

Well, spring is finally here! The weather is getting warmer and we are all thinking about trading our winter jackets for shorts and tee shirts.
Our tree has grown many beautiful leaves. It’s branches spread far and wide offering a shady place to read, write a story or just relax. The branches that broke off during the winter have been cut back. We see some new branches beginning to grow as well. This tree has been in our school yard a long time, and will be here for many more years to come.
