Our Tree in Autumn

Fall Tree

AUTUMN in WETHERSFIELD

The crisp autumn air howls through the lightly colored leaves of green, yellow, orange and fiery red. It sounds like water rushing over rocks. The top branches are filled with fall leaves and the bottom branches still have summer leaves. The branches are long and strong. Some pieces of wood are dangling off branches. The trunk is round and fat. It feels like a rough turtle! The smell is letting off a maple syrup scent. A strange vine is crawling up the side of the tree. Is it poison oak? Trees are very important because it produces oxygen for people and animals to breath.

OUR 2006-2007 TREE OBSERVATIONS

W - weather has changed this tree
R - really dropping leaves in the wind
I - interesting trunk with a lot of texture
G - golden, orange leaves
H - high into the sky it reaches
T - thin, thick, long, short, broken branches

Our Tree in Winter

Winter Tree

WINTER IN WETHERSFIELD  2007

It is an unusual winter in Connecticut.  We have had almost no snow as of February 9th.  The snowplows have not come around yet and we have not had a snow day off from school!  No snow boots have been worn.  However, the temperature has been in the teens, twenties, and thirties recently.  So we are using our winter jackets, gloves, hats and scarves!

After the New Year we had UNUSUALLY warm weather.  The temperature rose to over 75 degrees!  Daffodils and tulips began to grow.  We bet they are confused!  But our Seasonal Changes tree is not confused.  The fall leaves dropped and the silvery branches stand proud.

OUR ENVIRONMENT

Forest, soil, rivers
Natural resources
Sun, oceans air

Natural world around us
Rocks, minerals, plants
Keeps man kind living forever.
