The California quarter was the 31st state quarter to
be released by the U.S. Mint. California became a state on September
9, 1850, and the California quarter was the first one to be released
in 2005. The design of this quarter was chosen by Arnold Schwarzenegger,
the governor of California after looking at several different designs.
On
the state quarter of California you will see a picture of John Muir
standing
and looking
at the beautiful Yosemite Valley in California.
John Muir was an explorer who published a lot of books about California’s
beauty. He also started the Sierra Club to protect nature, especially
Yosemite National Park. He died in 1914. You will also see a picture
of a Condor. It is important in the state of California because this
bird was nearly extinct, but it gained back its population. |
