The
Hawaii flag has eight red, white and blue stripes. The number
eight represents the eight
main islands of Hawaii, which are Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai,
Lanai, Niihau, Kahoolawe, and the main island, called Hawaii.
There is also a picture of Great Brittan’s flag in the
upper left corner. This is a symbol of Hawaii and Great Brittan’s
friendship. The cross over the triangle shapes is also a symbol
called a “puela” or “alia.” This is a
symbol of the royal rulers of Hawaii who ruled over Hawaii until
1893. This flag
was first created in 1816 and was later adopted as the state
flag in 1978.
