The Kansas quarter was the 34th state quarter to be released by the U.S. Mint. Kansas became a state on January 29, 1861, and the Kansas quarter was the 4th quarter to be released in the year 2005. Kansas’s governor Kathleen Seblius chose the design of this quarter. On the state quarter of Kansas you will see pictures of a buffalo and sunflowers. The state animal is the buffalo. At one time millions of buffalo roamed on the plains of Kansas, and the Native Americans hunter them for food. It is important in the state of Kansas because they wanted to show the state mammal and the state flower.
