The Washington quarter was the 42nd state quarter released by the U.S. Mint. Washington became a state on November 11, 1889, and the Washington quarter was the second one to be released in the year 2007. Chris Gregorian chose the design of this quarter. On the state quarter of Washington you will see king salmon jumping out of the water. It is important in the state of Washington because there is a lot of salmon in the state when you go fishing. You will also see water. It is important in the state of Washington because they have salmon, halibut, flounder, trout, shrimp, white fish, tang, oysters, crabs, clams, herring, and sturgeon for food. You will also see land in the background of the quarter. The mountain is actually an active volcano called Mount Rainier. It is important in the state of Washington because it is covered with snow and glacial ice.
