The Louisiana quarter was the 18th  state quarter to be released by the U.S. Mint. Louisiana became a state in 1803, and the Louisiana quarter was the third to be released in 2002. Governor Foster chose the design of this quarter after Louisiana residents’ thought of design ideas. On the Louisiana quarter you will see a map of Louisiana’s territory. It is important to the state of Louisiana because Louisiana was part of the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase is how president Thomas Jefferson bought 13 new states in 1803. You will also see a picture of a brown pelican. This is important since the brown pelican is Louisiana’s state bird. It is also on the Louisiana state flag. You will also see a trumpet. It is important to Louisiana since it shows Louisiana’s heritage of jazz music.
