The Maine quarter was the 23rd state quarter to be released by the U.S. Mint. Maine became a state on March 15, 1820, and the Maine quarter was the third one to be released in the year 2003. Governor Angus King chose the design for this quarter after the people of Mane voted. On the state quarter of Maine you will see Pemaquid Point Lighthouse on large rocks, a schooner, and a pine tree. The Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is important in the state of Maine because it was built in 1826 to protect ships from crashing into rocks along the coast. Tourists like to visit this lighthouse .You will also see big granite rocks under the light house. Granite is important in the state of Maine because the Atlantic Ocean is bordering Maine, and the coast is very rocky. You will also see a big schooner. It is called “Victory Chimes.” It is a famous sailing ship, and it is important in the state of Maine because lots of people like sail boating (or wind jamming). |
