The Mississippi quarter was the 20th state quarter to be released by the U.S. Mint. Mississippi became a state in 1817, and the Mississippi quarter was the fifth one to be released in the year 2002. Governor Ronnie Musgrove chose the design of this quarter. On the state quarter of Mississippi you will see a magnolia branch, a mockingbird and its nickname, “The Magnolia State.” You will also see the state tree, which has blossoms of the state flower the magnolia. It is important in the state of Mississippi because the state tree and its flower are symbols of natural beauty. Also the tree can be used for making furniture, baskets, and crates. |
